This thesis addresses the challenges pertaining to the design and development of textile yarn-based lithium-ion batteries, which are vital for powering personal wearable electronics. Overall, the thesis involved the selection, synthesis, modification, and testing of several battery materials and their fabrication into high performance yarn-based electrodes. The inorganic nickel-rich materials were used to form yarn-based cathodes. This was followed by the modification of silicon materials by sandwiching them between molybdenum disulphide 2D nanosheets, which were then used to form anode yarns. Finally, the anode and cathode yarns were combined into a fully functional yarn battery capable of powering wearable electronics.
