Abu Mansur al-Maturidi’s Approach to Muhkam and Mutashabih Ayahs -An Assesment in The Context of Human Nature and Human Intellectual Competence-

Abstract

The scholars of ilm al-kalam (Mutakallimun) have discussed muhkam-mutashabih since the earliest times. Muhkam-mutashabih issue wasn’t directly analysed in its theoretical aspect in the articles related to kalam or books of ilm al-kalam, because usually this topic was regarded as a subject related to Usul. But, Maturidi (ö. 333/944) examined the issue of muhkam-mutashabih in Kitab al-Tawhid as a problem of kalam. So, that attempt of Maturidi is a distinctive approach to this topic in the ilm al-kalam. Maturidi analyses the obstacles to understanding muhkam-mutashabih and especially the reasons of emergent of muhkam-mutashabih problem on the basis of human natural and intellectual features. As well as, he compares between human natural and intellectual features in an interesting way.
