In their studies of Islamic heresiography, Orientalits generally have dealt with the issues of the emergence and development of the Islamic sects and their relations with political authority.On the other hand, they also examined the methodological issues related to the Islamic heresiography.R. Strothmann, D. Sourdel, H. Laoust, W. M. Watt ve W. Madelung and the others analyzed various issues of the Islamic heresiography.They also studied certain works put forward by the muslim heresiographers.Nevertheless, the scholar who, by examining the accounts about Khawarij, has structurally analyzed the Islamic heresiography as a genre and the heresiographical literature is Keith Lewinstein.In his study, along with the analysis of the standart Ash'ari heresiography literature, he tried to establish the existence of a seperate Eastern Hanafite-Maturidite heresiography literature.In this article, we will deal with his study.
