The purpose of this article is to examine al-Māturīdī‟s (d. 333/944) critique which was directed to Mu„tazila‟s aslah theory. First of all, I will deal with the Mu„tazila‟s way of proving their theory of aslah. Subsequently, I will analyse al-Māturīdī‟s criticism against the Mu„tazila‟s arguments for aslah. In conclusion, I will evaluate whether al-Māturīdī is right and coherent in his objections and criticisms
