Ebû Hanîfe, iman meselelerinde tüm belirleyici soruların doğru cevaplarını vermiş kabul edilir. Onun öğretisinin Buhara ve Semerkant'taki tüm halefleri tarafından tespit edilebilir bir değişiklik olmaksızın aktarıldığı ve geliştirildiği varsayılır. Abu Hanifa is held to have provided the correct answers to all definitive questions in matters of faith. His teaching is supposed to have been transmitted and elaborated upon by all his successors in Bukhara and Samarqand without detectable alteration. In this understanding, al-Maturidi is not a school founder but the most knowledgeable interpreter of Abu Hanifa — in al-Nasafi's words, 'the most knowledgeable person on the views of Abu Hanifa' (a'raf al-nas bi-madhahib Abi Hanifa).
