Mâtürîdî, imanda istisna yapılmasını (insana yönelik irade çekinmesi) caiz görmemiştir. Kişi imanının farkındadır ve bunu 'inşallah' kaydıyla şüpheye düşürmesi doğru değildir. Bu tutum, Eş'arî geleneğin imanın âkıbetine (hâtime) dair endişe sebebiyle istisna yapılmasını caiz görmesinden farklıdır.

Māturīdī rejects the practice of saying 'I am a believer, God willing' (istithnāʾ fī l-īmān). Since faith is assent of the heart, and one is aware of one's own inner state, introducing uncertainty through the exception clause is inappropriate.
