Mâtürîdî, insanın fiilleri konusunda hem cebir hem tam serbestlik anlayışlarını reddetmiştir. İnsan, cüz'î iradesiyle (iḫtiyār) fiillerini yönlendirir; bu irade gerçek bir seçim kapasitesidir. Ancak fiillerin yaratılması Allah'a aittir — insan yönlendirir, Allah yaratır. Bu denge, Mâtürîdî kelâmının en ayırt edici unsurlarından biridir.

Māturīdī rejects both strict determinism (jabr) and absolute free will. Humans possess genuine choice (ikhtiyār) that directs their acts, while the creation of these acts belongs to God. This balance is a hallmark of Māturīdī theology.
